Looking for words that spur sales and
make people fall in (platonic) love with you?

You’re a trailblazing entrepreneur.

You’ve kicked adversity’s butt. And grown your business with sweat, tears, and the occasional under-breath curse (we’re all friends here).

You have a story that your future fans need to hear. One that makes you sound a lot cooler than your competitors—and has people buy into you and your brand from word one.

The only problem?

You can’t seem to find the RIGHT words. In fact, you’re pretty sure writing about yourself was once used as a form of medieval torture.

Whether you’re here because you’re . . .

  • Tired of your About page reading like a cringe-worthy blend of resume and obituary—and you’re done spinning your wheels in front of your computer.
  • Wanting your website copy to trot your creds, but you worry about coming across like a humble bragger or cheesy infomercial.
  • Always having a MILLION stories to tell and zero clue how to corral them all into a cohesive, relevant message that connects with your audience.
  • Ready to close more sales and speaking gigs, but when your bio is such a snoozefest, people might assume you’re a yawner off the page, too.
  • Known for your talking, NOT your writing. Unless drinking wine while
staring at a blank page counts.

You’re ready to come out of the writing wild

. . . and hand the reins over to a pro like me, so you can harness the true power of your brand story.

Hello again, Melissa here

Rule-breaking storyteller. Word-wrangling copywriter.

Cowgirl at heart who speaks fluent snark.

Distilling your unique experiences, values, and strengths into a personality-packed brand narrative is my glass of Napa Cab.

I help female entrepreneurs and service providers get high-converting websites that sound like them, so they can get back to business while their words do the wooing.

You can trust your brand voice and story in my hands because:

  • This isn’t my first rodeo! With 30+ years of copywriting experience, I’ve voiced the brands of major film studios, wineries, theme parks, performing art companies, and luxury resorts.
  • And perhaps more relevant to you, I’ve helped shape 100+ standout entrepreneurial and personal brands.
  • After working at McCann (a fancy-pants agency in San Francisco), you can bet I know as much about brand positioning as I do about copywriting. Positioning your story the right way is going to make the difference between a shrug and “take my money!”
  • The websites, About pages, and bios I write inspire people to whip out their wallets without a hard pitch. (Like my recent client who closes a sale on almost every discovery call because her prospects already know, like, and trust her from her website and bio.)

Some copywriters craft website copy that sounds super professional . . . but nothing like you. And, dare I say, it’s forgettable.

Others apply cookie-cutter formulas and conversion tricks for every client.

I’m different.

I dive deep into the heart of your story, getting a feel for how you talk, think, and relate to your audience. Then tell your story with words that sound like your best self.

Bio captured what he was too humble to share.

“My bio captured all the elements that I’m normally too modest to discuss but did so in a way that read like an exciting article. Makes me look back and think, ‘Well sh*t, that guy sounds pretty cool! Oh wait…that’s me!’

How I went from being an admin
assistant to a word-wrangling copywriter
for a major ad agency

After snagging an English degree from Stanford University, I knew I wanted to be a copywriter.

There was just one roadblock on the trail—ad agencies weren’t interested in hiring inexperienced ol’ me as a copywriter.

As you might have guessed, that didn’t stop this rule-breaker. I found a loophole.

I got my boot in the door at McCann in San Francisco by working as an admin assistant. And between answering phones and typing client memos, I volunteered to help the creative teams with their work overflow.

(Conveniently, my desk was located in the creative department. Sometimes the universe gives you a break.)

I soon found myself on location producing TV spots I’d written. Within a year, I was promoted to full-fledged copywriter.

Before long, I was working with agencies all over the western U.S. crafting brand messaging for clients like Spice Islands, Continental Airlines, Hyatt Regency, Sony, and Kapalua Resort—just to name a few. I even won some ad awards along the way.

But these ad award wins paled in comparison to what would come next . . .

Why I said goodbye to agency life and hello to telling small business stories like yours

While writing for big national brands, I saw the hearts of great stories get lost in bureaucracy.

I longed to lose the cumbersome approval process and collaborate DIRECTLY with people free from corporate reins, folks who live on equal measures of vision and grit.

I wanted to tell the stories of entrepreneurs like you. Help you find your audience, make a mark, and make a difference.

That felt right to me.

My True North was staring me in the face. It was time to buck agency life and set up my own copy shop!

Since riding solo (first Almon Creative and then Cowgirl Copy Studio), I’ve helped clients find their voices, grow their businesses—and lasso win after win.

Having a stake in creating true outcomes feels better than any professional ad award win.

And I’ve never looked back.

New copy boosted her confidence and bookings.

“Melissa has a way of drawing out important details—things I never would have thought of—and turning them into an interesting read. Her copy has made me more confident about my work. And that’s had an impact on my business. Now I can spend more time behind the camera, instead of spinning my wheels in front of the computer.”

The world is full of remarkable people with
remarkable stories that remain untold.

I don’t want that to be your story.

Maybe you’re a kickass keynote speaker. Quirky creative. Or you run a boutique winery.

Whatever your zone of genius, there’s power in the story of who you are and how you make a difference.

So if you’re ready to turn your story into a personality-packed asset for your business . . .

One you can share with pride on your website, in your media kit, or on social media . . .

Let’s saddle up and buck boring copy—together.

What’s with this “Cowgirl” thing and
other fun facts even Google doesn’t know

I love riding Western and have been braving the saddle since I was a five. Which is why I embrace the cowgirl spirit—the kind where rules get broken, and new trails get blazed every day.

At Stanford, my favorite English class was (English) jumping.

When I drive through new towns, I brake for the local grocery, hardware store, and garage sales. It’s not about the goods, but about the good stories that are there to discover.

A Virgo to the bone, my love language is to-do lists.

I’m an empath at heart. Being on the AIDS care team in my hometown of Laguna Beach, CA, is where I learned humor, hugs, and homemade guacamole are what keep us human.

I’ll pick a restaurant for lunch based on the tea and lemonade (fresh, please) in their Arnold Palmer.

Her clients go nuts for her personality-packed writing, talent for shaking out the real story, and ability to write words that get them booked solid. (Like Melissa’s recent client who gets $8k bookings on almost every discovery call.)

It’s not all giddy-up either. Melissa has written for big brands like Disneyland, Hyatt, Sony, Prudential, Continental Airlines, and more. But what she’s most proud of are the 100+ personal and boutique brands she’s helped grow through telling their unique stories.

When this Stanford grad isn’t pushing the limits of her manicure on the keyboard, you can find her checking out the latest “Hustle Buy” red wines at Trader Joe’s, or trying not to get lost riding in the hills of Southern California.

    • A fully-written website to our mutually agreed scope.

    • Two rounds of revisions to get the copy where it feels just right.

    • Recommendations for design and production to stage your story with impact and clarity.

    3. The combination of a well-written and well-designed site is the tiebreaker when customers are comparing you to your competition.

  • THE APPROACH:

A conventional About page is about you. A Super About page is about them—your prospective clients. And you.

Rather than just talking about your experience, the Super About page demonstrates it by showing the reader you understand their world and what they’re struggling with.

The page positions you as a credible solution to their challenge. And moves you that much closer to starting a relationship.

With a LinkedIn Profile and Speaker’s Bio included, this package anchors your website and overall messaging.

Accelerate trust. Turn your About page from a passive look back to an active business closer with your personality. Go Super. Go Us.

    WHAT’S INCLUDED:

    • An in-depth discovery process that brings clarity to your story and how you deliver value.

    • Messaging and language for your Super About page that hooks your prospect’s attention and has them asking for more.

    • A LinkedIn Profile in sync with your website messaging, plus a Speaker’s Bio to have the audience sit up and pay attention before you’ve even said a word.

    WHY DO THIS:

    1. The About page is the second most read page on a website (and sometimes the first). Make sure yours doesn’t default to the standard resume meets obituary.

    2. Try as you might, it’s almost impossible to write about yourself with perspective, personality and warmth—the mojo that attracts people.

    3. You know too much about yourself to know what to include, and what to leave out.

    4. Confidence is good. How you’re introduced on the web, social media and at speaking events gives you that extra boost.

    5. There’s no one like you. When your clients get who you really are and how you deliver value, you have no competition.
